How Fees Work on Poshmark in 2026

Poshmark uses the simplest fee structure of any major resale marketplace — one commission, nothing else. Verified against Poshmark's official fee policy in July 2026:

FeeAmountNotes
Sales under $15$2.95 flatYou keep the rest
Sales of $15 or more20%You keep 80% of the sale price
Listing fee$0Listing is free, no time limits or renewals
Payment processing$0Included in the commission
Shipping$6.49 flatPaid by the buyer (USPS Ground Advantage); seller discounts come from earnings

The commission applies to the final sale price— the accepted offer amount — not to the buyer's shipping or sales tax. A $35 blazer nets you $28.00 after the 20% commission; if you sweetened the deal with a $2.54 shipping discount, you net $25.46. The prepaid, pre-addressed label Poshmark emails you is already covered by the buyer's $6.49.

Poshmark vs. Mercari vs. Etsy: Where Does Your Sale Net More?

Poshmark's 20% headline rate is the highest of the big three resale platforms, but headline rates hide fee stacking. Here is the same $50 sale compared across marketplaces using each platform's July-2026 verified fees:

PlatformFee MathPlatform TakeYou Keep
Poshmark20% × $50$10.00$40.00
Mercari10% × ($50 + $8.99 buyer shipping)$5.90$44.10
Etsy$0.20 + 6.5% × $50 + 3% × $50 + $0.25$5.20$44.80

So why do closet resellers stay on Poshmark? The commission buys real things: buyer-paid shipping on every order (no label math, no shipping-fee base like Mercari's), zero listing or processing fees, Posh Protect handling disputes, and a fashion-focused buyer pool that supports higher sale prices for clothing and accessories. For a $200 designer bag, though, that $40 commission is real money — run your item through our Mercari and Etsy calculators before you choose where to list.

Poshmark Seller Taxes: 1099-K, Closet Cleanouts, and Resellers

The tax question every Poshmark seller asks: is my closet cleanout taxable? Generally no — selling your own clothes for less than you paid creates no taxable income (and no deductible loss; the IRS treats personal-use property losses as nondeductible). But reselling for profit — thrifting, retail arbitrage, sourcing wholesale — is a business. Those profits go on Schedule C, and once net earnings hit $400, the 15.3% self-employment tax applies on top of income tax.

Poshmark issues Form 1099-K when gross sales exceed the federal threshold of $20,000 AND 200 transactions (restored by the One Big Beautiful Bill Act of 2025). Watch your state, though — Massachusetts, Maryland, Vermont, and Virginia require the form at just $600, and Illinois and New Jersey use $1,000 triggers. A 1099-K reports gross sales: your commissions, shipping discounts, item costs, and supplies all come off before anything is taxed. Since October 1, 2025, Texas-based sellers also have a Texas Seller Fee Tax deducted from earnings — keep those statements.

If your closet turned into a business, estimate your bill with the 1099 tax calculator and set aside the right amount each quarter with the quarterly tax calculator.
