Rates reflect eBay's published US fee schedule, verified July 2026. eBay calculates the final value fee on item price + shipping + sales tax; this calculator excludes sales tax, so the real fee runs slightly higher in taxed states. Verify current rates on ebay.com.

eBay charges two main selling fees: an insertion fee when you create a listing (your first 250 listings per month are free, then $0.35 each without a Store) and a final value fee when the item sells. The final value fee has two parts: a percentage of the total amount of the sale — item price plus shipping charged to the buyer plus sales tax — and a per-order fee of $0.30 (orders of $10 or less) or $0.40 (orders over $10).
The percentage depends on the category and whether you have a Basic-or-higher eBay Store. Verified July 2026 rates for common categories:
| Category | No Store / Starter | Basic Store and above |
|---|---|---|
| Most categories | 13.6% up to $7,500, then 2.35% | 12.7% up to $2,500, then 2.35% |
| Books, Movies & Music | 15.3% up to $7,500, then 2.35% | 15.3% up to $2,500, then 2.35% |
| Consumer Electronics | 13.6% up to $7,500, then 2.35% | 9.35% up to $2,500, then 2.35% |
| Trading Cards | 13.25% up to $7,500, then 2.35% | 12.35% up to $2,500, then 2.35% |
| Jewelry (except watches) | 15% (≤$5,000) or 9% (over) | 13% (≤$5,000) or 7% (over) |
| Watches, Parts & Accessories | 15% to $1K, 6.5% to $7.5K, 3% above | 12.5% to $1K, 4% to $5K, 3% above |
| Athletic Shoes $150+ | 8% flat, no per-order fee | 7% flat, no per-order fee |
| Guitars & Basses | 6.7% up to $7,500, then 2.35% | 6.7% up to $2,500, then 2.35% |

A Basic Store costs $27.95/month (or $21.95/month billed yearly) and cuts the final value fee in most categories from 13.6% to 12.7% — a 0.9-point saving. On monthly sales of $3,000 that saves about $27, roughly the subscription cost, so $3,000–$3,500/month in sales is the typical breakeven for most categories. Sellers in Consumer Electronics or Computers break even much sooner — their rate drops from 13.6% to 9.35%, saving $42.50 per $1,000 sold.
Store subscribers also get more zero-insertion-fee listings (1,000/month on Basic vs 250 without a Store) — important for high-volume listers, since each extra listing otherwise costs $0.25–$0.35. A Starter Store ($7.95/month) does not unlock discounted final value fees; it mainly buys a storefront and a small listing allowance.
For 2026, eBay issues a federal Form 1099-K when your gross payments exceed $20,000 AND 200 transactions — the threshold restored by the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA) in 2025. Several states set lower thresholds (some as low as $600), so you may receive a 1099-K even below the federal line.
A 1099-K reports your gross sales — not your profit. If you sell as a business, you report income on Schedule C and deduct item costs, eBay fees, shipping labels, and other expenses. Net profit is subject to income tax plus 15.3% self-employment tax, and you generally need to pay quarterly estimated taxes. Casual sellers offloading personal items at a loss owe no tax on those sales, but should keep records.
