Your deductions are working
$9,210 in deductions cut your taxable profit — saving you roughly $1,301 in tax versus deducting nothing.
Amazon Flex sends drivers Form 1099-NEC, available at taxcentral.amazon.com.
No form does not mean no taxes: all Amazon Flex income is taxable from the first dollar, and self-employment tax applies once net earnings reach $400.
Amazon Flex drivers are independent contractors who reserve delivery blocks and are paid a fixed rate per block plus tips on some block types. Amazon withholds nothing. Your Flex profit owes 15.3% self-employment tax on 92.35% of net earnings (from $400 up) plus federal and state income tax, reported on Schedule C and Schedule SE.
Amazon issues Form 1099-NEC — available at taxcentral.amazon.com rather than by mail — reporting your block pay and tips. For payments made in 2026 the federal threshold is $2,000 (raised from $600 by the One Big Beautiful Bill Act). Below it you may get no form, but the income remains fully reportable; the Flex app's earnings history has your totals.
Flex mileage is deceptively high: driving to the pickup station, running a 3–4 hour residential route, and returning adds up to 60–100+ miles per block. At the 2026 rate of 72.5 cents per mile, a driver doing three blocks a week can build a five-figure mileage deduction. One caveat — the drive from home to the station may be nondeductible commuting unless you maintain a qualifying home office; miles from the station through your route are clearly business.
If your Flex profit will generate $1,000+ of tax, the IRS expects estimated payments on Form 1040-ES four times a year: April 15, June 15, September 15, 2026, and January 15, 2027. Underpaying triggers a penalty computed like interest, charged even if you settle in full at filing.
The simplest system: every Flex payday (Amazon pays twice weekly), transfer the set-aside percentage from this calculator to a separate account, then pay the IRS quarterly from that account. If Flex is a side gig next to a W-2 job, you can instead raise your day-job withholding — extra withholding is treated as paid evenly through the year and can cure an underpayment even late in December.
Every legitimate business expense reduces both self-employment tax and income tax. Not sure about an expense? Check if you can write it off.

Amazon pays per block, not per mile, and the Flex app keeps no mileage log for you. Start a tracking app before you drive to the station and stop it after your last stop. At 72.5 cents per mile in 2026, an untracked 12,000-mile year is an $8,700 deduction left on the table.
Flex does not mail forms by default — your 1099-NEC appears at taxcentral.amazon.com by January 31. If you also earn Amazon affiliate or KDP income, each program issues its own form under the same login; keep them straight on your Schedule C.
Most Flex drivers work blocks around a day job. Your day-job withholding does not cover Flex profit, which lands in your top bracket plus 15.3% SE tax. Either make quarterly 1040-ES payments or bump your W-4 withholding to compensate.
