Your buyer also pays Depop's Marketplace fee — up to 5% of the item price plus up to $1 (≈$3.50 here). It never comes out of your payout, but it raises the real price buyers compare against other apps.

Fees reflect Depop's published US structure, verified August 2026 from the official Seller fees and charges page. The processing fee also applies to any sales tax collected at checkout (not modeled), so real fees run slightly higher in taxed states.

How This Calculator Works

1

Enter your sale

Item price, who covers shipping, what the item cost you — the same numbers you'd type into the Depop listing screen.

2

Flag a Boost

If the sale came through a Boosted Listing, toggle it on to add the 12% boosting fee — the only Depop fee beyond payment processing.

3

See real profit

The 3.3% + $0.45 processing fee line-itemized, net proceeds, profit after item cost, margin, and your exact breakeven price.

How Depop Fees Work in 2026: No Selling Fee for US Sellers

Depop made the boldest fee move of any resale marketplace: in July 2024 it removed the 10% selling fee for US sellers entirely, and as of August 2026 it hasn't come back. A lot of fee guides still quote 10% — that's only true for sellers outside the UK, US, and Australia. What US sellers actually pay, verified against Depop's official help center in August 2026:

FeeAmountNotes
Selling fee (US)$0Removed July 2024; 10% applies only outside the UK, US & AUS
Payment processing3.3% + $0.45On item price + shipping + any tax (Depop Payments via Stripe)
Boosting fee12%Optional; only when a boosted item sells (listings boosted from Mar 23, 2026 — 8% before)
Listing fee$0Listing is always free
Marketplace feeUp to 5% + $1Paid by the buyer at checkout — never deducted from the seller

Example: a $50 item with $6 buyer-paid shipping pays 3.3% of $56 + $0.45 = $2.30— an effective 4.6% of your item price. The same sale on Poshmark costs $10.00 and on Mercari $5.60. If the item sold through a Boosted Listing, add $6.00 (12% of $50), bringing the total to $8.30 — still less than Poshmark's cut.

Boosted Listings: When the 12% Fee Is Worth It

Boosting is Depop's only paid promotion, and it's pay-on-sale: you're charged the boosting fee only when a boosted item actually sells, never for impressions. For US sellers the fee is 12% for listings boosted from March 23, 2026(sales from listings boosted before that date pay the old 8%). It's charged on the item sale price — plus the shipping cost if you shipped with your own label instead of a Depop Shipping label.

The math to run before boosting: a boosted sale nets you roughly 15.3% lessthan an organic one (12% boost + processing). If your margin on a $40 thrift flip is $20, boosting gives up $4.80 of it. That trade makes sense for slow-moving inventory or when you're building sales velocity — not for items that would have sold anyway. Both the boosting fee and processing fee are automatically reversed if the sale is refunded.

Depop Seller Taxes: 1099-K and When Reselling Becomes a Business

Depop reports your gross sales to the IRS on Form 1099-K once you exceed the federal threshold — $20,000 AND more than 200 transactions in a calendar year under the One Big Beautiful Bill Act of 2025. Several states require a 1099-K at far lower levels (some at $600), so active Depop sellers should expect one.

What you owe depends on what you sold. Clearing out your own closet for less than you paid produces no taxable income — keep records in case a 1099-K arrives. Thrifting and sourcing to resell at a profit is a business: profits belong on Schedule C, and processing fees, boosting fees, shipping labels, and item costs are all deductible. Net earnings of $400 or more also trigger 15.3% self-employment tax. Estimate what to set aside with our 1099 tax calculator and quarterly tax calculator.
