How TikTok Shop Fees Work in 2026
TikTok Shop charges sellers one transactional fee: the marketplace referral fee, calculated as Referral Fee Rate × (Customer Payment + Platform Discount − Tax). Shipping and sales tax are excluded from the base, and — unusually for a marketplace — there is no separate payment processing fee. The current US schedule, verified against TikTok's official Seller Academy in August 2026:

TikTok Shop's fees have ramped hard since launch: the referral fee started at just 2% + $0.30 in 2023, then rose to 6%on April 1, 2024 — a 3x increase that reset every seller's margin math. The Real Costs: Creator Commissions, Ads, and FBT
The referral fee is usually the smallestcost of selling on TikTok Shop. The platform's superpower — creators selling your product in videos and livestreams — runs on affiliate commissions you set yourself, commonly 10–20% of the product price. On a $40 order, a 15% commission ($6.00) is two and a half times the $2.40 referral fee. Commission is only paid on creator-attributed orders, and it's fully deductible as a business expense.
- Creator commission (optional): you choose the rate per product in the Affiliate Program; paid only when a creator drives the sale.
- Fulfilled by TikTok (FBT, optional): TikTok picks, packs, and ships from its warehouses for a per-unit fee based on size and weight. Sellers who self-fulfill pay their own label costs instead.
- Refund administration fee: on refunded orders, TikTok returns the referral fee minus 20% of it (capped at $5 per SKU).
- Free samples and ads: most active shops send creator samples and run Shop Ads — real costs that sit outside per-order fee math but belong in your unit economics.
TikTok Shop Seller Taxes: 1099-K and Your Schedule C
TikTok Shop reports your gross sales to the IRS on Form 1099-K once you exceed the federal threshold — $20,000 AND more than 200 transactions in a calendar year under the One Big Beautiful Bill Act of 2025. Several states require a 1099-K at much lower levels (some at $600), and a shop that takes off mid-year can blow through the federal threshold in a single quarter.
The 1099-K shows grosssales — your taxable profit is what's left after deducting referral fees, creator commissions, product costs, shipping or FBT fees, samples, and ad spend on Schedule C. Net earnings of $400 or more also trigger 15.3% self-employment tax, and profitable shops generally owe quarterly estimated taxes.
